Stereotactic Radiation for Early Stage Lung Cancer

Southeast Radiation Oncology Center - Wednesday, December 30, 2015

By Dr. Eugene Huang

A new study published in the Lancet Oncology this year showed that stereotactic radiation could be an equally effective option instead of surgery for patients with early-stage lung cancer.   This pooled analysis of two randomized clinical trials comparing surgery versus stereotactic radiation showed that both treatment options had equally good survival and tumor control rates of over 80%. Patients treated with stereotactic radiation tolerated treatment better with fewer side effects.

Cyberknife is the most advanced and precise technology available today to deliver stereotactic radiation. Alaska Cyberknife Center is proud to offer this treatment to the residents of Alaska.

At Southeast Radiation Oncology Center, we know that cancer patients are best served by being treated in close proximity to a support network of family and friends. We offer patients in Southeast Alaska the ability to receive state-of-the-art radiation therapy without the burden of traveling great distances away from home. The information presented on this website is provided to allow our patients to gain more knowledge about our center, our staff, and our services.
